The list is compiled quarterly by the entertainment industry Pollstar, based on arena attendance for concerts and special events.
Since opening, The SSE Hydro previously ranked fourth (April 2014) and third (July 2014) in the quarterly announcements. The most recent ranking takes into account the entire 2014 calendar year.
“It has been an incredible journey for The SSE Hydro,” said Peter Duthie, Chief Executive of The SSE Hydro and SECC. “To be positioned as the second busiest arena globally just 15 months after opening is outstanding. We wouldn’t have received this accolade without the support of the artists, their promoters, our staff and of course the 1,045,344 fans that visited us last year.
“Looking ahead we won’t be slowing down with over 90 performances already confirmed for 2015,” he adds.
The SSE Hydro was beaten to the top spot by London’s O2 Arena.
