Event buyers from corporates, agencies and associations, and venue booking agents were among the guests that attended the launch of the Scandinavian Christmas Experience at Prince Philip House on 25 July.

Over 100 guests braved the heat on the hottest day of the year to experience a cool, contemporary Christmas experience – Scandi style.

Michael McGowan, sales and marketing manager at Prince Philip House said: “The Scandinavian Christmas is modern and contemporary and really compliments our venue – we are one of the few venues in St James’s with a modern interior. Our Scandi Christmas offers our clients a modern twist on the traditional Christmas themes. It’s cool, contemporary, interesting and yet fun; it offers something a little bit different without straying too far from the traditional Christmas.”

The Scandinavian Christmas experience can be enjoyed by parties from 20 to 120 guests for a seated meal and for up to 300 for a standing Christmas party.

The evening focused on exploring the tastes and flavours of Scandinavia with a creative and inspiring themed menu and bespoke cocktails for guests to indulge. Guests were treated to a selection of canapés which included reindeer tartare with confit egg yolk, scallop and pickled cucumber ceviche served in its own shell, salmon mousse in a seaweed cone with chives, and smoked eel with squid ink tapioca and pickled shallots.

Bowl food served included Icelandic crayfish bisque, reindeer meatballs, cured egg yolk with pickled giroles, grilled onion, pickled carrot, cucumber and cauliflower and also smoked skyr espuma with pickled beetroot and toasted couscous.

A Scandinavian Christmas would not be complete without a Fish Stall serving a delicious array of delicacies including gravadlax, beetroot cured salmon with seaweed and cucumber pearls, herring with smoked skyr, pickled shallots and honeyed sea buckthorn, cured gurnard beetroot and potato, and also sea bream carpaccio with almond sherry vinegar, dill and chive oil.

The showpiece of the evening was dessert. Each dessert was served in a beautiful glass bauble hung from a wooden tree in the centre of the room. Guests could choose from many mouth-watering treats including tangerine and cranberry Eton mess with candied hazelnuts, dark chocolate cake, brandied cherries and crème fraiche, passionfruit curd with raspberries and spiced almond sponge and also winter spiced cheesecake with speculaas crumble.

Prince Philip House is a beautiful venue in the heart of London’s St James’s and is the home of the Royal Academy of Engineering. Situated in a historic Grade I listed building, but with a contemporary and modern interior it is the perfect space for meetings and events – with event spaces for up to 170 theatre style and receptions for up to 300 guests.
